Lawrence County Fair was the place to be over the past weekend for livestock shows and competitions. The fair has grown over the years adding a host of activities and entertainment for the whole family.

This year did not disappoint with folks starting the week before competing in the annual events such as the fair pageant and pickle ball tournament.

There was something for everyone even if you just wanted to be a spectator.

Competitions for kids included Mutton Bustin’, Greasy Pig Contest, and they could win prizes by showing off their livestock and even participate in the auction.

A Cultural Arts Exhibit was touted as a big success with more entries this year as in the past years with dozens of ribbons handed out.

There were inflatables with games added to them and a dunking booth.

And as always, plenty of that good food you only find at the fairground.

It was an all-American great time with music and a live band Saturday night.

The fair offered a car show, a horse show, Out-House races, tractor pulls, pet shows and so much more with trophies, ribbons and even hefty payouts to some winners of these competitions.

The highlight of the fair every year is the rodeo and the crowd it brings complete with a trick pony rider, clowns, bulls, horses and daredevils who try for 8 seconds of fame.

Lawrence County Judge Executive Phil Carter said he was well pleased with all the hard work and how wonderful the fair went.

“It was good weather, great entertainment and the rodeo was a new group that done well,” said Judge Carter. “The fair just keeps improving and was a great payoff.

Lawrence County Fair Board President Rick Blackburn said without sponsors and volunteers the fair could not have been successful.

“I just want to thank all the volunteers, sponsors and especially the youth who take pride in making this so rewarding for the community,” said Blackburn. “I am super proud of our youth and all the people who support them each year. We had two school buses running non-stop and church buses to handle the crowd getting them to and from the fairground along with a hillbilly choo choo. I was also happy to say we had a lot more participants in the horse show this year and the new rodeo company we went with this year was great entertainment that I believe the crown really enjoyed. Also, thanks to our Judge Executive Phil Carter for his support. Our vision is to make this bigger and improving every year for our community and most importantly for our youth.”
