Lawrence courthouse remains closed

LOUISA — Lawrence County Judge-Executive Phillip Carter signed an executive order Dec. 30, 2020, announcing that the Lawrence County Courthouse would remain closed to the public and re-evaluate the situation on Jan. 8.

Carter said in his executive order that the decision to keep the courthouse closed to the public was made based on the continuing rise of positive COVID-19 cases provided by the Lawrence County Health Department.

“Lawrence County continues to stay in the ‘Red Zone’ category following the Christmas Holiday and will continue to be in the red with an anticipated rise of cases following the New Year’s holiday,” the executive order said. “We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 positivity case numbers and re-evaluate on Jan. 8. However, at this time, the Lawrence County Courthouse will continue to be closed to the public.”

Carter said in the order that staff will remain in the office to assist county residents.
