Lawrence County Fair opens July 27

LOUISA — The fifth annual Lawrence County Fair is also the 200th Centennial Celebration in Lawrence County and will run from July 27 through July 30, with the 10th annual pageant being held on July 23.

The Lawrence County Fair Pageant will be at 6 p.m. at the Lawrence County Community Center at 205 Bulldog Lane in Louisa.

Categories will include prettiest baby, 0-1 years; cutest toddler, 2-4 years; tiny Mr./Miss Lawrence County 5-7 years; Little Mr./Miss Lawrence County 8-12 years; Junior Miss Lawrence County, 13-15 years and Miss Lawrence County, 16-18 years.

On July 27, vendors can set up then on July 28, the fair opens at 5 p.m. with Lawrence County Judge-Executive Phillip Carter conducting the opening ceremony, the VFW will doing a flag salute and Maelyn Huff singing the National Anthem.

The livestock show with cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, etc., will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the livestock showtime at 6 p.m. Cowboy Church will begin at 7 p.m. with preachers Chuck Price and Michael Marcum and singers will include the Branham Family, 40 Days and Mercy Line. The fair will close at 9 p.m.

On July 29, the fair opens at 4 p.m. with livestock show check-ins between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and the livestock show with rabbits and chickens will begin at 6 p.m. Record books and posters will also be judged. Mutton Busting preliminary signups for the first 30 kids eligible will begin at 6 p.m. and the Lawrence County Horse Show begins at 7 p.m. with a $3,000 payout with the Lawrence County Saddle Club, with 25 different classes $5 and $10 entry fee.

On July 30, the Cultural Arts Exhibits open at 10 a.m., with check-ins at 10 a.m. and judging at 12 p.m. The sixth annual Car/Truck/Cycle Show/Tractor Show and Swap Meet is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with registration at the Louisa Methodist Church at 9 a.m. The tractor pull is at 11 a.m. with $500 prize money and the Corn Hole Event is at 10 a.m. with $500 prize money. The livestock premium sale begins at 11 a.m. followed by the buyer’s banquet at 12 p.m. and another tractor pull at 12 p.m. with $500 in prize money. The greased pig contest is also at 12 p.m. Outhouse signups are 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the Outhouse Race is at 2 p.m., with $750 in prize money.

The fairgrounds are cleared from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. except for those who have pre-purchased rodeo wrist bands and the fairgrounds reopen at 5 p.m.

Admission is $10 per person, with kids 12-years and under free. The Kings Brother’s Rodeo is at 6 p.m. with the top 10 mutton busting finals during intermission.

Following the rodeo, there will be a live music concert featuring Alex Miller and Sam L. Smith with a special guest. After the concert, the fair closes.
