Lawrence County Fair has new location this year

LOUISA — The Lawrence County Fair has changed some of its plans for this year’s events, which will be held in a new location on Pine Hill Road.

On July 24, the Lawrence County Pageant will be held at 6 p.m. at the Lawrence County Community Center. Applications can be picked up at the Lawrence County Community Center, Tess’s Auto Mart and Hudson Block.

Categories include prettiest baby, 0-1 years old; cutest toddler 2-4 years; Tiny Mr./Miss Lawrence County, 5-7 years; Little Mr./Miss Lawrence County, 8-12 years; Junior Miss Lawrence County, 13-15 years; and Miss Lawrence County, 16-18 years.

Vendors will set up July 28. The fair opens July 29 at 5 p.m. with Lawrence County Judge-Executive Phil Carter conducting the opening ceremony. The Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct a flag salute, and Becky Carter will sing the National Anthem.

Check-ins for the livestock show featuring cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, etc., will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the show set to begin at 6 p.m. Cowboy Church will start at 7 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market, with Mike Cox and Greg Caudill as preacher and singers featuring Living Waters and the Branham Family. The fair closes at 9 p.m.

On July 30, the fair opens at 4 p.m., with the livestock show check-ins from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the show beginning at 6 p.m. with rabbits and chickens. Record book and posters will also be judged, and mutton busting preliminary signups for the first 30 children will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Lawrence County Horse Show with the Lawrence County Saddle Club, featuring 25 different classes, will begin at 7 p.m.

On July 31, cultural art exhibits open at 10 a.m. with check-ins at 10 a.m. and judging at noon.

The Sixth Annual Car/Truck/Cycle Show/Tractor Show will be held from 10 a.m. till noon. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Louisa Methodist Church.

Corn hole begins at 10 a.m. with $200 in prize money.

The livestock premium sale begins at 11 a.m., and the buyer’s banquet is at noon. A tractor pull begins at noon, with signups beginning at 11 a.m.

A greased pig contest starts at noon and outhouse races begin at 2 p.m. Signups are from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The fairgrounds will be cleared between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., except for people who have pre-purchased a rodeo wrist band, and will be re-opened at 5 p.m., with admission for adults at $10 per person; children 12 and under will be admitted free.

The King Brothers Rodeo will begin at 7 p.m., with the top 10 mutton busting finals during intermission.

Sam L. Smith will perform following the rodeo, and the fair will close after his show.

Anyone wanting to ride bulls or run barrels at the Lawrence County Fair Rodeo needs to call (336) 669-8076 or (419) 305-3142 on July 26 and sign up between noon and 6 p.m. You must sign up at this time to be able to compete in the King Brother’s Rodeo on July 31. Prize money is $3,000 for bulls and $1,000 for barrels.
