LOUISA — The Lawrence County Fiscal Court held its regular meeting Tuesday and voted following executive session to terminate Joy Hogan from the county’s payroll.

Joy Hogan and her husband, County Attorney Michael Hogan, are charged in a June 3 indictment involving wire fraud, federal program theft and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

The couple was scheduled to go to trial in August but asked for more time to prepare and it is now scheduled for January 2022.

The motion to terminate Joy Hogan from the county payroll was made by Magistrate Mike Halcomb, seconded by Magistrate Dave Pinson, with all in favor.

In other business, the fiscal court approved a $1,000 donation to Septemberfest, with a motion from Magistrate Rick Blackburn, a second by Halcomb, with all in favor.

The court unanimously voted to accept Lawrence County Sheriff Chuck Jackson’s 2020 franchise settlement and his 2020 tax settlement.

The fiscal court also approved the church lease renewal.

Judge-Executive Phillip Carter said the county attorney’s office had written up the changes and it read the way they wanted.

A motion approving the lease renewal was made by Blackburn, seconded by Halcomb, with all in favor.

It was also on the agenda to appoint library board members, but Carter said it was being reviewed and the item was skipped.

Also during the meeting, the court unanimously approved the minutes of the June 15 regular meeting and the June 30 special meeting, the treasurer’s request, the bills and the treasurer’s report.

Magistrate John Scaggs was also present for the meeting remotely.
