Kentucky State Police investigates a two vehicle collision in Floyd County
PRESTONSBURG – Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post was notified of a two-vehicle fatal collision in Floyd County at approximately 9:29 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6.
The collision occurred on State Highway 114 in the Prestonsburg community of Floyd County.
Upon arrival and through investigation, troopers discovered Keith Anderson was operating a 2010 Honda Insight when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt being operated by Kenny Auxier.
Anderson and Auxier, were both transported to medical facilities for treatment. Kayla Nicole Elam, 17, of Salyersville, a passenger in the Chevrolet was transported to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision. The investigation is ongoing by KSP Accident Reconstructionist, Detective Josh Scott.
Detective Scott was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police Post 9 personnel, Prestonsburg Fire Department, and Lifeguard Ambulance Service.
Kayla was a senior at Magoffin County High School, was a member of Licking Valley United Baptist Church and worked at Salyersville McDonalds.
She was the daughter of Randy and Mary Ruth Howard Elam. She is survived by fiancé, Kenny Auxier; grandmother, Ruth Howard; and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, at Head of Cook Creek Church. Visitation after 6 p.m., Oct. 9, all day, Oct. 10, and until service time, at the church. Burial in Head of Buffalo Cemetery, Salyersville, services under direction of Magoffin County Funeral Home, Salyersville.
