Johnson man dies in crash

PAINTSVILLE — One person died as a result of a single-vehicle crash at Upper Twin Branch in Johnson County Thursday at approximately 5:33 p.m.

Darrell T. Haney, 53, of Denver, was identified as the victim in the crash by Johnson County Coroner J.R. Frisby.

According to a release issued by W.R. Castle Fire and Rescue, members were dispatched to assist Rockhouse Fire and Rescue on a fatal single-vehicle accident. Rescue 1 responded with five firefighters and had to use hydraulic rescue tools to remove the roof and free the victim from the wreckage, the release said.

Conley’s Wrecker Service was also standing by to assist in the extrication if necessary, the release said.

Frisby and Deputy Coroner Harry Frisby also responded.

Johnson County Sheriff Doug Saylor and his deputies are investigating the accident. Details of the crash were not available at press time Monday.

Haney is survived by his mother, Eldalene Blair Haney of Denver; a son, Christopher Keith Haney of Denver; and a sister, Sandy Ratliff.

Privates services were held Monday, Nov. 23, at Phelps Funeral Home in Paintsville, with burial in the Blair Family Cemetery at Denver.
