Johnson County Fuel Truck Crash Claims Life of Salyersville Man

The Kentucky State Police have investigated a one-vehicle accident where a Salyersville man was killed in Johnson County on Thursday, March 5.
According to KSP Trooper Michael Coleman of Post 9 in Pikeville, Charlie Allen Skaggs, 49, was driving a Jackson Propane Plus truck on Ky. 201 near the Johnson/Lawrence County line when the accident occurred at 12:59 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and went over an embankment,
According to Coleman, Skaggs was pronounced dead on the scene by the Johnson County Coroner’s Office.
The KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division investigated the crash, Coleman said.
On social media those who worked with Skaggs announced their closure the next day with a heartfelt post.
“With heavy hearts, the Jackson Propane Plus family is mourning the loss of one of our own. Today Thursday, March 5, 2026, we tragically lost a valued coworker and friend while he was out doing the job he did every day—serving our customers and community.
He was a hardworking, dependable man with a kind heart, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who loved him during this incredibly difficult time.”
Other agencies that responded to the accident were the Flat Gap, W.R. Castle, Oil Springs, Rockhouse, Paintsville and Blaine fire departments; Paintsville-Johnson County Emergency Management; the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office; the Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office; Kentucky Emergency Management; Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12; and the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 11, at Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel, with Larry Blair officiating. Burial will be in the Skaggs Family Cemetery at Coon Creek.
Survivors include his wife, Jenny Skaggs, and two brothers, Tony and Dwayne Skaggs.
