Johnson County announces flood debris cleanup requirements
The Paintsville/Johnson County Emergency Management, Johnson County Fiscal Court and City of Paintsville has issued flood debris cleanup guidelines on Friday, Feb. 21.
Residents impacted by the recent flood may place flood-related debris on the right-of-way (ROW) of public highways and roadways in Johnson County. In the city of Paintsville, debris should be placed at the curb.
Debris along county roads will be picked up by a contractor at a later date and along city streets will be collected by the City of Paintsville Sanitation Department. There is no cost to residents for this service. Deadline for debris pickup in Monday, March 31.
Residents must separate debris into the following five categories:
1. Vegetative debris (trees, branches, etc.)
2. Construction debris (wood, drywall, carpet, etc.)
3. Metal/appliances (refrigerators, stoves, etc.)
4. Household Hazardous Waste (paints, cleaners, oil, batteries, etc.)
5. Bagged Household trash will not be collected as part of this program.
This cleanup effort is separate from the annual county-wide cleanup program and only applies to flood-related debris. Residents are encouraged to report damages by call 606-789-2260.
