John Sparks former LC Cooperative Extension Agent dies in Winchester
Retired Lawrence County Cooperative Extension Agent, John Edward Sparks, formerly of Blaine, passed away on Thursday, May 1, in Winchester. He served the farmers of Lawrence County for so many years. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. After his retirement, he sold produce at several of the farmers markets in central and eastern Kentucky.
John was the son of the late Marvin and Monnie Conley Sparks, his sister, Carolyn Sparks is also deceased.
Survivors include his wife Kathi Miller Sparks and his step-son, Jeremy (Amy) Blair of Winchester and three grandchildren. A brother, Henry Sparks, also survives.
He was an avid University of Kentucky sports fan, attending many sporting events over the years, he was also a member of Paintsville First Baptist Church before moving to Winchester and becoming member of Central Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, May 8, at the First Baptist Church of Paintsville with Scott Ogle and Donnie Patrick officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the mission committees of Paintsville First Baptist or Winchester Central Baptist.
