JCHS wins Region 15 Governor’s Cup; LCHS student advances to state

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central High School added some more gold to its trophy case after winning another regional Governor’s Cup title Saturday.

Johnson Central took first place overall, won both team competitions and captured four individual contests.

Johnson Central won the overall Region 15 Governor’s Cup with 50 points, followed by Pikeville with 27 points, Martin County with 22.5 points, Shelby Valley with 14 points and Prestonsburg with five points.

In Region 16, Lawrence County High School student Trey Hall took fourth place in arts and humanities and will compete in state Governor’s Cup competition in March.

Results of the Region 15 Governor’s Cup were:

• Quick Recall: first, Johnson Central; second, Pikeville; third, Martin County; and fourth, Shelby Valley.

• Future Problem Solving: first, Johnson Central; second, Pikeville; third, Shelby Valley; and fourth, Floyd Central.

• Mathematics: first, Zoe Castle, Johnson Central; second, Maddox Parsons, Pikeville; third, Colin Horn, Martin County; fourth, Aneesh Sharma, Pikeville; and fifth, Dylan Street, Pikeville.

• Science: first, Luke Johnson, Shelby valley; second, Colin Horn, Martin County; third, Faith Johnson, Shelby Valley; fourth, Evan Alexander, Martin County; and fifth (tie) Brannan Campbell, Johnson Central, and Aneesh Sharma, Pikeville.

• Social Studies: first, Ben Moore, Johnson Central; second, Bryce Fletcher, Johnson Central; third, Clinton Goff, Pikeville; fourth, Jacob Aklaghi, Johnson Central; and fifth, Zack Slone, Pikeville.

• Language Arts: first, Sara Coleman, Johnson Central; second, Zoe Castle, Johnson Central; third (tie), Eli Tan, Pikeville, and Steven Jordan, Martin County; and fifth, Vincent Lawson, Martin County.

• Arts and Humanities: first (tie) Sara Coleman, Johnson Central, and Vincent Lawson, Martin County; third, Constance Martin, Johnson Central; fourth, Steven Jordan, Martin County; and fifth, Trent Cox, Johnson Central.
