LOUISA — Food City recently held its corporate-wide Friends In Need Drive.

God’s Food Pantry volunteers unloaded 436 cases of staple food items on April 28, amounting to more than $7,000 in shelf stable food.

The Friends in Need Food Drive was held March 9-April 15, offering locals the opportunity to purchase bags of non-perishable food items for $10 to be given to local hunger relief organizations.

God’s Food Pantry, a program of the Louisa/Ft. Gay Ministerial Association, received the large donation with “grateful hearts as shelves were filled,” the release said.

“On Thursday, May 5, God’s Food Pantry served 158 families, each receiving food from this amazing Food City Friends in Need Food Drive,” God’s Food Pantry Director Bob Chapman, said in the release. “We are thankful to be able to pass all this food along to our local families especially as the cost of groceries and other necessities go up. We have both a generous community and many in need. Thank you, Food City, for leading this drive and Community for giving!”

God’s Food Pantry is located at 107 Southland Drive, Unit 3, and is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Services are provided monthly by household to Lawrence County residents meeting income guidelines based on number in the home.

A photo ID and proof of Lawrence County residence are required to receive commodities.
