Although a lot of events have been canceled around the region due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some cities are still planning to host events for the 4th of July celebrating their independence. In Louisa, festivities are being kept to a minimum, with a parade scheduled for 10 a.m. and a fireworks display at dark. The show will also go on in Floyd County with a “grand fireworks display” that, according to Prestonsburg Tourism, will be “wonderful.” “The fireworks will be happening still on July 4, with a show that people have come to love and expect from Prestonsburg,” Prestonsburg Tourism said via Facebook Messenger. “Fireworks will begin around 10 p.m. that evening. We will not be holding the annual Star City Day with vendors and music downtown, at this time. The fireworks show, will last 20-40 minutes. We are still finalizing details on where people can park to enjoy the show while still maintaining distancing practices. People can follow our Facebook page or the City of Prestonsburg and check in with our website (prestonsburgky.org) for maps and guidance as we release them. All social distancing guidelines must still be followed.” Martin County Tourism will hold a meeting on Monday and discuss their plans for 4th of July at that time. Paintsville Tourism announced that it will host a live concert July 4 at 7 p.m. at Paint Creek Park featuring the Sons of FM band, with fireworks that night. Paintsville Tourism also said it will work on having refreshments available and that social distancing guidelines will be in place. More details will be made available next week.
