COVID-19 cases continue to rise throughout the Commonwealth, but the Floyd County Health Department on Monday reported its first day in the single digit numbers since Jan. 10.

On Monday, Floyd County reported seven new cases, bringing its total to date to 2,773, with 320 active and 11 in the hospital.

The Floyd County Health Department also said it plans to start vaccinating the county’s 70 and older group and to give second doses to health care workers and others in group 1a.

The Floyd County Health Department also announced that it is finishing up on its final first time doses for school personnel K-12.

The Floyd County Health Department said that places that may be serving those 60 and older include Highlands ARH, ARH Our Lady of the Way, McDowell ARH and Pikeville Medical Center. The department advised that people seek out vaccines from one of those options if possible as their supplies may be limited.

The Lawrence County Health Department said on Monday that it has 13 new COVID-19 cases, which includes both Sunday and Monday, bringing the county’s confirmed positive cases to 1,108, with 121 active, 971 recovered and 19 deaths.

Martin County reported six new cases Monday, bringing its total positive cases to 860, with 62 active cases, 779 recovered and 19 deaths.

Each of the health departments asked the public to continue to practice social distancing, good hand hygiene and to wear a mask.
