Fatal Fire at Fallsburg

FALLSBURG —A fatal fire on 8132 Hwy 828 Twin Branch, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, claimed the life of one man.

Kenny Marcum, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene and the Kentucky State Police and Kentucky Fire Marshal are investigating, according to Fallsburg Fire Chief, Chris Jobe.

Jobe said the fire was of a single-wide mobile home with additions added to it.

“The cause was undetermined at the time,” Jobe explained. “When we arrived, it was a fully involved fire. We got the call at 9:08 a.m. on Wednesday. We are letting the Kentucky Fire Marshal and the Kentucky State Police do the investigation being it was a fatality.”

Fallsburg Volunteer Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Louisa Volunteer Fire Department, Stations 1 and 2; Webbville Volunteer Fire Department; Lawrence County Emergency Management; Lawrence County Road Department; Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office; Kentucky State Police and the Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office.

“Although this fire did not have the outcome we were hoping for, everyone did an outstanding job in very difficult conditions,” Fallsburg Volunteer Fire Department wrote on their Facebook page.
