Easter parade scheduled Saturday in Louisa

Easter events are scheduled in the Big Sandy region in the coming weeks, including the first Lawrence County Easter parade.

The parade will be held this Saturday, April 2, beginning at 11 a.m., with line up at 10 a.m. in the Louisa Plaza.

Activities will follow on the Lawrence County Courthouse lawn. There will be food/concessions, games and more.

Three Easter fundraisers are scheduled.

The Lawrence County Band Boosters are having a pie sale with orders due by April 6, and each of the 9-inch pies will be made fresh, not frozen. Pickup of the pies will be on April 16, and the options include pecan, coconut cream, chocolate cream, lemon, apple, Dutch apple, cherry and blueberry.

The shelf life of the fruit pies is four to five days, cream pies is three to four days and pecan pie is 10 to 14 days. All pies can be frozen.

A Ray Of Hope in Louisa is doing a fundraising event called Egg My Yard, where participants purchase the number of stuffed eggs they want, and they will hide them in your front yard the night before Easter along with a note from the Easter Bunny.

The event is limited to Louisa residents only, and there are limited spots. The cost is $20 for 30 eggs, $30 for 50 eggs and $40 for 75 eggs. If it rains, you will receive your eggs by your front door in a basket.

Tolsia Youth Cheer is also hosting an Egg Your Yard fundraising event in which participants will wake up Easter morning to a yard full of eggs filled with candy and small toys. The cost for 20 eggs is $20, 50 eggs for $45, 100 eggs for $95 and a personalized basket for $20.

The city of Martin in Floyd County will hold an Easter Egg Hunt on April 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Martin baseball field, with over 1,000 eggs to find.

Those attending are asked bring their own Easter baskets. The event, which will also include snacks and prizes, is sponsored by the city of Martin and the Martin Tourism Commission.

The Tolsia Youth Baseball/Softball League will host an Easter Egg Hunt April 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tolsia baseball field located at 130 Orchard St. in Fort Gay, W.Va.

The Greater Huntington Park & Recreation District will host four community Easter egg hunts this year, including April 9 at 10 a.m. at the Harris Riverfront Park and at St. Cloud Commons Park at 2 p.m.; and April 16 at April Dawn Park at 10 a.m. and at Rotary Park at 2 p.m.

Each hunt will include over 8,000 candy- and toy-filled eggs along with additional special prizes. The Easter Bunny will also stop by each event for photos. The events are free.

The Salvation Army in Huntington, W.Va., will hold an Easter Egg Hunt April 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with food, a petting zoo, a bounce house and prizes. For more information about the free event call, (304)-529-2401, or visit www.tsahuntingtonwv.org.

Lawrence County’s Food Bank God’s Hands Ministry will host its second annual Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m., with over 10,000 eggs filled with candy and prizes at the Blaine Church of God located at 17655 Highway 32.

The fourth annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by a Ray of Hope, Lawrence County Tourism, Phil Carter, Vince Doty, the Lawrence County Fiscal Court, Lawrence County Sheriff Chuck Jackson, Chris Jobe and Lawrence County Attorney Brad Derifield will be April 16 at Lawrence County Park, located at 77 Wilderness Road.

Gates will open at 11 a.m., and the event will include an Easter basket giveaway, games, face painting, four golden eggs and money eggs, with over 500 eggs hidden.

Children 12 years old and under will also be able to take their picture with the Easter bunny. You must be present and a Lawrence County resident to receive a free easter basket, while supplies last. For more information, call (606) 371-2091.
