Case numbers drop significantly in four counties

The number of new COVID-19 cases have dropped significantly in Lawrence, Johnson, Floyd and Martin counties.
A total of 547 new cases were reported in the four counties between Tuesday, Sept. 21, and Monday, Sept. 27. In the preceding seven-day period, 801 new coronavirus cases were reported.
The number of new cases included 133 in Lawrence County, 145 in Johnson County, 202 in Floyd County and 67 in Martin County.
Three additional coronavirus-related deaths were reported, including one in Lawrence County on Sept. 23 and one each in Johnson County on Sept. 23 and Sept. 25.
“This makes the 23rd death since August 1- approximately 1 every other day,” the Johnson County Health Department said when reporting the Sept. 23 death. “Please turn on your green lights and continue to remember these families in your thoughts and prayers.”
Johnson County has had 54 COVID-19-related deaths since the pandemic began, while Lawrence County has reported 37 and Martin County 31.
Floyd County does not include the number of deaths in its daily COVID-19 reports.
All four counties remain in the red zone with incidence rates of 121.2 in Lawrence, 77.9 in Lawrence, 78.3 in Floyd and 108.5 in Martin on Monday.
