Louisa Mayor Harold E. Slone signed a proclamation on Monday, March 31, making the month of April “Child Abuse Prevention Month” in the City of Louisa.
Residents are encouraged to bear blue Friday, April 4, as part of the “Wear Blue Day” and participate in the upcoming activities to show their commitment to preventing child abuse.
“Protecting our children is a responsibility we all share,” said Mayor Slone. “By working together, we can create safe, nurturing environments where children can thrive and reach their full potential.”
Along with representatives from child advocacy organizations, social services, and local leaders, Mayor Slone emphasized the critical role the entire community plays in ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
“As the Mayor, I also call upon all Louisa, citizens, community agencies, faith groups, medical facilities, elected officials and businesses to increase their participation in our efforts to support families, thereby preventing child abuse and strengthening the communities in which we live,” stated Mayor Slone.
The proclamation signing event took place at Louisa City Hall where those who attended wore blue to show solidarity with the cause.
Pathways, a leading child advocacy group in Louisa, praised the Mayor’s efforts and highlighted ways the public can get involved. “Every child deserves to grow up in a safe and loving environment,” said Madison Arrington, TAYLRD Regional Coordinator. “We encourage everyone to learn the signs of abuse, support families in need, and advocate for policies that protect our children.”
Child Abuse Prevention Month is a nationwide campaign dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging action to prevent child abuse and neglect. Throughout April, advocacy groups will host various events, including educational workshops, awareness walks, and community outreach programs to promote child safety and support families.
Chalk the Walk will be on Monday, April 14, from 4-5pm at Main Street Park, across from the Lawrence County Public Library.
