CAMPBELLSVILLE — Taylor County High School introduced Casey Young as its new boys’ golf head coach on Wednesday, June 19.

Young, a native of Paintsville, played golf at Campbellsville University where he obtained his teaching degree. He began his teaching career at Taylor County High School in 2010. Young has continually taught social studies since then. In 2023, Young obtained his Doctorate (PhD).

Previously, Young served as Taylor County boys’ golf head coach from 2010-2012, He was Taylor County girls’ golf head coach from 2010-2016. Recently, Young has been serving as an assistant coach on the boys’ golf coaching staff and helping to oversee the middle school golfers. His girls’ team won a region title for the first time in over 20 years in 2014. In addition, Young recorded back-to-back sixth place finishes in the state in 2013 and 2014.

Young was named Region 4 Girls’ Golf Coach of the Year in 2014. He also served as a tennis assistant coach at Taylor County for three years. A Paintsville High School graduate, Young worked as an assistant golf coach at Campbellsville University from 2016-2021. He is poised to fill the role of Taylor County boys’ golf head coach for the upcoming season, which begins in July. Young replaced former Taylor County boys’ golf head coach Todd Polston.

“I want to thank Todd Polston for an outstanding tenure as the boys’ head coach and continuing to build upon one of the best high school golf programs in the state,” said Young. “His dedication to the program and players was second to none and made an impact that will last for a long time. I am grateful that the administration trusts me to be a placeholder for one year while the program transitions to the next great coach and leader. I am thankful for my wife Cheris who is onboard with me helping this year and the time commitment that means. I am 100 percent dedicated to this team and this season and am ready to get to work to bring home another 2A state title and Region 4 championship. However, we will not define success by wins and losses, but by the growth of our older kids as leaders and our younger kids as golfers and people. God has richly blessed me, and I am excited to give back a portion of that to these kids and have an amazing season.”

Excitement is building for the Taylor County boys’ golf program’s upcoming season.

“We are fortunate that we had someone in the district who is familiar to our student-athletes and who they will be comfortable playing for ensuring a smooth transition,” said Taylor County High School Athletic Director Greg Oliver. “From an administrative side, we are also happy to have someone like Casey who knows not only how to be a head coach and manage a program but has experience in that role at Taylor County. We are glad to have him assume this role and look forward to seeing him and the team in action starting in July.”
