Tolsia drops game to Tucker County in state tournament

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Breaking open a close game, Tucker County defeated Tolsia 66-44 in the first round of the WVSSAC Girls’ Basketball State Tournament at the Charleston Coliseum on Wednesday, March 8.
Tucker County doubled up Tolsia 44-22 in the second half of the state tournament game.
Tolsia fared well early, outscoring Tucker County 12-8 in the first quarter.
The Rebels and Mountain Lions were tied 22-22 at halftime but Tolsia was limited offensively after the intermission period.
Ericka Zirk scored 19 points to lead Tucker County (20-2) to the win. Following Zirk in double figures for Tucker County, Macy Helmick scored 14 points and Kadie Colebank netted 10 points.
The other scorers for Tucker County in the state tournament game were Raven Matthews (eight points), Avery Colebank (five points), Katie Hicks (three points), Brylee Wetzel (three points), Jayden Moore (two points) and Addie Hicks (two points).
Tucker County finished 22-of-56 from the field. The Mountain Lions made five of 17 three-point field goal attempts.
Tucker County shot 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the free throw line.
Kerigan Salmons scored 14 points to lead the Rebels. Joining Salmons in double figures for Tolsia, Emily Artrip scored 12 points and Autumn Block netted 10 points.
Block recorded a double-double for Tolsia, securing 15 rebounds.
The other scorers for Tolsia in the state tournament game were Amber Stevens (six points), Julie Young (one point) and Kilee Preece (one point).
Tolsia finished 15-of-57 from the field. The Rebels connected on 11 of 18 three free throw attempts, shooting 61 percent at the foul line.
