Tigers to face Crittenden County in rematch of 1985 state title game

PAINTSVILLE — After revising its schedule, Paintsville is set to visit Crittenden County for a rematch of the 1985 KHSAA Class 1A state title game. Crittenden County defeated Paintsville 14-6 in the 1985 KHSAA Class 1A state title game and is due to host the Tigers for the rematch on Friday, Sept. 18. Paintsville is ranked second behind reigning champion Pikeville in the CalPreps.com Preseason Class 1A Rankings. Not too far behind the tigers, Crittenden County is ranked fifth heading into the 2020 high school football season. The Tigers finished runner-up to nemesis Pikeville in Class 1A in 2019. Pikeville shut out the Tigers 43-0 in the 2019 Class 1A state title game. Paintsville ended the 2019 high school football season 11-4. The Tigers outscored opponents 456-277 in 2019. Paintsville is slated to visit East Jessamine for its season opener on Friday, Sept. 11. The Rockets concluded the 2019 high school football season 10-3 following a loss to Kentucky Country Day in the third round of the Class 1A State Playoffs. Crittenden County outscored opponents 450-178 during the 2019 season. A talented Western Kentucky high school football team, Crittenden County is slated to visit Caldwell County for its season opener on Friday, Sept 11.
Teams across the state are preparing to open preseason practice on Monday, Aug. 24.
