Shepherd receives Gem of the Big Sandy

LOUISA’S OWN Major League Baseball pitcher, Chandler Shepherd, received the ‘Gem of the Big Sandy’ Award from Mayor Harold Slone, during a community meet and greet on Thursday, July 16, at the Lawrence County Public Library. Following the ceremony, he signed autographs.

Shepherd is a 2011 graduate of Lawrence County High school, then spent three years pitching for the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He was drafted June 8, 2011, by the Chicago White Sox in the 41st round of the 2011 amateur draft, but did not sign; June 7, 2014, drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 13th round of the 2014 amateur draft and signed on June 11, 2014; May 18, 2019, selected off waivers by the Chicago Cubs from the Boston Red Sox and selected off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles from the Chicago Cubs, and was released by Baltimore on Sept. 20, 2020. He signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Twins on Feb. 5, 2021.

Shepherd now lives in Arizona with his wife, Moriah and children.
