Red Devils shut out Tigers

FLATWOODS — Russell dealt Paintsville its first loss in the 2025 high school football season, shutting out the Tigers 41-0 on Friday, Sept. 12.

After registering the win, Russell moved to 4-0. As a result of the loss, Paintsville dropped to 3-1.

Quarterback Jayden Frasure completed nine passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns for the Red Devils.

Cayden Pennington, Jayden Pennington and Kanenan Jacobs each reeled in one touchdown pass reception for Russell in its win.

Russell rushed 29 times for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Kaiden Benge, Lane Osborne and Anderson Haggard each provided one rushing touchdown for the Red Devils.

Defensively, Russell recorded its second straight shutout. The Red Devils shut out West Carter 35-0 one week earlier on Friday, Sept. 5.

Quarterback Parker Helton paced Paintsville, completing 16 passes for 107 yards. Colton Short, Anderson Lauffer and Andrew Meeks each hauled in multiple pass receptions for the Tigers.

Paintsville was limited on the ground, rushing 12 times for 39 yards.

Brody Howell led the Tigers defensively, recording 10 tackles.

Russell is scheduled to host Ashland for its next game on Friday, Sept. 19.

In another game set for Friday, Sept. 19, Paintsville is slated to visit Frankfort.
