Martin County to compete in King of the Bluegrass

LOUISVILLE — Reigning 15th Region boys' basketball champion Martin County is among the 16 teams set to compete in the 40th annual Chad Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic during the 2020-21 girls' high school baseball season. Martin County is one of four Kentucky region champions slated to compete in the boys' high school basketball holiday tournament. The Louisville-based boys' high school basketball tournament is scheduled for Dec. 18-22 at Fairdale High School. Elizabethtown (Fifth Region), Male (Seventh Region) and Covington Catholic (Ninth Region) are the other reigning Kentucky region champions in the tournament's field. The other Kentucky teams in the field for the tournament are Ballard, Beechwood, Bowling Green, Eastern, Fairdale, Marshall County, North Laurel, Oldham County, Spencer County and Trinity. Dorman, a team out of Roebuck, South Carolina, captured its fourth straight Class 5A state championships last season and will compete in the 2020 King of the Bluegrass boys' basketball tournament. Talent-heavy Dorman finished the 2019-20 season 30-1 and ranked second in the nation.
Brentwood (Tennessee) Academy is also poised to compete in the 2020 King of the Bluegrass boys' basketball tournament. Martin County concluded the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season 22-12.
