Lawrence County falls to JCHS in 15th Region girls’ semifinals

PIKEVILLE — Lawrence County’s run in the prep hoops postseason ended as Johnson Central pulled away to win 64-49 in the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Tournament semifinals at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Saturday, March 27.

Following the loss, Lawrence County was eliminated from the postseason and exited its latest campaign 19-11.

Johnson Central (22-4) advanced to the 15th Region girls' basketball title game after claiming the win.

Sammi Sites scored a team-high 19 points to lead Johnson Central to the win. Sites finished 8-of-9 from the free throw line in the Lady Eagles' win.

Accompanying Sites in double figures in scoring for Johnson Central, KK Vannoy netted 18 points and Taylor McKenzie contributed 11 points.

Taking control early, Johnson Central outscored Lawrence County 19-8 in the opening quarter. Johnson Central led 26-17 at halftime and added to its lead shortly after the break. The Lady Eagles outscored Lawrence County 22-15 in the third quarter.

Lawrence County shot 37.8 percent (17-of-45) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs were 3-of-21 from 3-point range.

Lawrence County shot 75 percent (12-of-16) from the free throw line.

Kensley Feltner led Lawrence County with a double-double, scoring 31 points and hauling in 13 rebounds.

Following Feltner, Emmallee Holt netted six points for the Lady Bulldogs in the season-ending loss.
