Lady Eagles to host 14th Region champion early in 2020-21 season

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central is scheduled to host reigning 14th Region champion Letcher County Central in an early-season girls' high school basketball game on Dec. 10. The Lady Eagles ended the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season 16-15. Johnson Central finished runner-up to Martin County in the 57th District. Following the 57th District runner-up finish, Johnson Central made an appearance in the 15th Region Girls' Basketball Tournament. Belfry ended Johnson Central's 2019-20 season, edging the Lady Eagles 53-52 in the opening round of the 15th Region Girls' Basketball Tournament. The Lady Cougars defeated Knott County Central 45-40 in the 2019-20 14th Region girls' basketball title game. Letcher County Central ended the 2019-20 hoops season 25-11. The Lady Cougars' latest campaign ended following a loss to Northern Kentucky powerhouse Ryle in the Girls' Sweet 16. Johnson Central is poised to return several experienced players for the 2020-21 girls' high school basketball season. Senior guards Sammi Sites and Kelci Blair are headed back for perennial 15th Region girls' basketball title contender Johnson Central. The Lady Eagles' top two scorers during the 2019-20 season, Sites and Blair combined to average 30 points per game. Johnson Central is slated to open preseason practice in mid-October.
