Lady Bulldogs capture fifth straight 58th District Championship

EASTERN — Lawrence County pulled away to defeat Floyd Central 16-1 in three innings in the 58th District Softball Tournament championship game on Wednesday, May 17.
A perennial title contender, Lawrence County captured its fifth straight 58th District Championship. Tradition-rich Lawrence County won its eighth consecutive district title. The Lady Bulldogs have competed in multiple districts over the past decade.
Lawrence County pitcher Taylor Blevins claimed the win in the circle. Blevins limited Floyd Central to one earned run on two hits while recording three strikeouts.
Floyd Central pitcher Cadyn Roberson suffered the loss in the circle.
Lawrence County scored 16 runs on 13 hits. Bree Jones (three hits), Kensley Feltner (two hits, four RBIs), Ella Fitzpatrick (two hits, two RBIs), Dani Crum (two hits, one RBI), Ella Smith (one hit, two RBIs), Shelby Blevins (one hit, one RBI), Taylor Blevins (one hit, two RBIs) and Gracie Preece (one hit) made up Lawrence County’s offensive attack in the district championship game. Feltner drilled two home runs for the Lady Bulldogs.
Lawrence County registered its 25th straight win. Following the win, Lawrence County improved to 25-12.
Both Lawrence County and Floyd Central advanced to the 15th Region Softball Tournament.
