Jude scores 11 points in return to starting lineup

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Fort Gay, W.Va., native Coty Jude was back in the starting lineup for visiting UNC Asheville but Marshall managed to pull away to win 88-67 in a men's college basketball game on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
The Bulldogs held the lead until late in the first half. Closing out strong, Marshall scored 13 of the last 19 points in the first half to take control of the game.
Asheville's record dropped to 3-4 overall, while Marshall improved to 6-1.
Marshall connected on 12 3-point field goals. The Thundering Herd shot 42.9 percent from 3-point range in the win.
Taevion Kinsey led Conference USA member Marshall with a game-high 26 points. Following Kinsey in scoring for the Thundering Herd, Mikel Beyers netted 22 points.
Asheville shot 44.3 percent from the field and scored 31 points in the paint. However, Marshall was even more efficient, shooting 51.6 percent.
Tajion Jones scored 18 points to pace UNC Asheville. Finishing behind Jones in scoring for the Bulldogs, Trent Stephney netted 12 points and Jude posted 11 points. Jude, a former Tolsia High School student-athlete, made his first start in the 2020-21 men's college basketball season.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to visit Longwood for a Big South Conference men's basketball opener on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
