Golden Eagles knock off Lafayette 37-8

LEXINGTON — Johnson Central pulled away to defeat host Lafayette 37-8 in the Bumblebee Bowl on Friday, Aug. 19.

The Golden Eagles and Generals met for an opener in the 2022 high school football season.

Johnson Central rushed 59 times for 460 yards and six touchdowns in the win over Lafayette.

Zack McCoart led Johnson Central on the ground, rushing 18 times for 186 yards and three touchdowns.

Carter Conley followed in the Golden Eagles’ offensive attack, rushing 18 times for 117 yards and one touchdown.

Reaching the endzone twice in Johnson Central’s win, Chase Price rushed 11 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

Another Johnson Central running back, Christian Barnes, added 31 rushing yards via five carries.

Defensively, Ryan Rice, Jesse McCoy, Seth Davis and Logan Castle each recorded six tackles for the Golden Eagles.

Perennial state title contender Johnson Central played its first of back-to-back games in Lexington.

Johnson Central is scheduled to face Fern Creek on Friday, Aug. 26. Kickoff for the Johnson Central-Fern Creek football game is set for 6 p.m. in Lexington.
