Fugates lead Paintsville past Belfry 55-51

PIKEVILLE — Connor and Colby Fugate combined to score 44 points to lead Paintsville past Belfry 55-51 in the 15th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament semifinals at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Friday, March 26.
The win allowed Paintsville to advance to the 15th Region boys' basketball title game.
Paintsville and Belfry were tied at the end of each of the first two quarters in the region title game. Belfry carried a one-point lead out of the third quarter but was limited late. The Tigers outscored Belfry 24-19 in the final period to pull out the win.
Connor Fugate scored a game-high 24 points to lead 57th District Champion Paintsville to the win. Following his brother in double figures for the Tigers, Colby Fugate netted 20 points.
Paintsville shot 94.7 percent from the free throw line, finishing 18-of-19.
DeMahjae Clark scored 16 points to pace Belfry, Joining Clark in double figures for the Pirates, Tyler Chaffin netted 13 points.
Belfry shot 66.6 percent from the free throw line, finishing 14-of-21.
The champion out of the 60th District, Belfry ended its season 17-10.
The Tigers defeated the Pirates for the second time in the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season.
Paintsville moved on to meet crosstown rival Johnson Central in the 15th Region boys' basketball title game.
