James P Justice, known as Sledgemaster by his friends, recently traveled to Palm Springs, Calif., as a representative of East Kentucky and Kentucky to compete in the United State Powerlifting Association (USPA) Nationals.

A lifelong weightlifter, Justice has devoted many hours to training and staying all natural in order to develop his ability the right way, while serving as a role model to the younger generation.

Justice can squat 606.25 pounds, bench 391.25 pounds, and deadlift 600.75 pounds. In the Palm Springs competition that was held July 12-16th, Justice said he placed first in squat, first in deadlift, and second in bench.

The holder of two state records for deadlift and bench, Justice plans to continue his success and compete in the International Powerlifting League (IPL) World championship in Costa Mesa, Calif., in November. A portion of the costs to travel and compete at these events is covered by sponsors. Justice thanked his current sponsors, who are East Kentucky Barbell of Ivel, Pikeville Mini Storage, the Hitchcock family, Kathy Newsome and family, Color Me Crazy Beauty Salon, and Appliances of Pikeville.
