Bulldogs to compete in new-look district

LOUISA — Defending champion Lawrence County will compete in a new-look Class 3A, District 8 during the 2023 high school football season.

Following realignment by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), Class 3A, District 8 is comprised of Lawrence County, Belfry, Magoffin County, Estill County and Powell County.

After reaching the second round of the KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs, Lawrence County exited the 2022 high school football season 9-3. The Bulldogs notched wins over Belfry, Magoffin County, Harrison County, Russell, East Carter, Boyd County, Pike County Central and Floyd Central in 2022. Under the direction of Coach Alan Short, Lawrence County beat East Carter both during the regular season and in the Class 3A Playoffs last season.

In other realignment moves, Paintsville moved to Class 1A, District 8 and Johnson Central moved to Class 4A, District 6.

The Bulldogs will open preseason practice following the conclusion of the KHSAA Dead Period.
