Bulldogs slated to kick off season at Russell

LOUISA — Lawrence County is slated to kick off the 2020 high school football season at Russell on Sept. 11.
Russell is ranked sixth in the CalPreps.com Preseason Class 3A Rankings. In the same rankings, Lawrence County is listed 17th. The Bulldogs ended the 2019 high school football season 4-7. Lawrence County lost to Pike County Central in the opening round of the 2019 Class 3A State Playoffs. The Red Devils ended the 2019 high school football season 9-3. Russell lost to Ashland Blazer in the second round of the 2019 Class 3A Playoffs. The Bulldogs and Red Devils are familiar rivals.
Russell pulled away to defeat Lawrence County 41-12 when the two teams met during the 2019 high school football season. Lawrence County has September 18 as an open date in the 2020 season. The Bulldogs have additional regular-season games scheduled versus Pikeville (Away, Sept. 25), Magoffin County (Away, Oct. 1), Pike County Central (Home, Oct. 9), Belfry (Home, Oct. 16), Floyd Central (Away, Oct. 23), Raceland (Home, Oct. 30) and Rowan County (Away, Nov 6). Kickoff for the upcoming Lawrence County-Russell football matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs' tentative 2020 schedule follows.
