Bulldogs shutout District opponent Floyd Central in 10-0 ballgame to bring home district championship

The Bulldogs traveled down to Prestonsburg this past Wednesday, May 21, to take on the Floyd Central Jaguars in the 58th District Championship. The two teams split with a 1-1 record in the regular season. The Dawgs started the championship game hot and ended it on the same pace, winning it in a 10-0 contest.
Junior Boedy Maynard tossed a 5-inning complete game shutout for the Dawgs in the win. Maynard had 5K’s, allowed 0 runs, and 6 hits in the game. Maynard has been a force on the mound all year for the Dawgs hosting a 1.22 ERA and 55 K’s on the year.
The Dawgs had a very powerful offense in the game combining for a total of 13 hits. Senior Eli Fletcher and Freshman Gray Derifield led the way for the Dawgs with 3 hits each. Senior Cam Perkins and Senior Logan Whisenaut followed up with 2 hits each.
Senior veteran Eli Fletcher continued his great senior season campaign with a strong championship game. Fletcher led the way for the Dawgs in the win going 3-4 with 2 RBI’s. After the game Fletcher received his 58th District Player of The Year award making that back to back years of him receiving it. Fletcher has been a big name around the state this year for the well-rounded career he has had and ending it with a big senior season. Heading into the postseason Fletcher had a .483 AVG which has him ranked as 29th in the state, 43 Hits which is good enough to be tied as the 17th best in the state, 16 doubles which puts him at 3rd in the state, and 6 HR’s which has him tied at 14th in the state. Here is what Fletcher had to say after the game, “We’re playing our best ball right now. We’ve got a team that loves to win and that loves to compete. It’s a great feeling knowing that our team has put ourselves in a spot to win the region next week. We’re all excited to go play another week of baseball. I love our team and we’re very capable of winning a championship.”
