Bulldogs’ season ends in region tournament’s first round

PIKEVILLE — Pikeville dealt Lawrence County a season-ending loss, defeating the Bulldogs 76-65 in the quarterfinals of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Wednesday, March 6.
Following the loss, Lawrence County dropped to 24-8.
Taking control early, Pikeville outscored Lawrence County 23-13 in the first quarter.
The Panthers led 36-22 at halftime and remained out in front throughout the second half.
Pikeville led 55-40 at the end of the third period.
Eli Johnson scored a game-high 25 points to lead Pikeville (22-4) to the win. Joining Johnson in double figures for Pikeville, Charlie Fitzer and Carter Hurley netted 17 points apiece.
Finishing in single digits for Pikeville, Ian Onkst (seven points), Cole Slone (five points) and Heath Jarrell (five points) were the winning team’s additional scorers.
Andrew Bloomfield paced Lawrence County, scoring a team-high 20 points for the Bulldogs.
Directly behind Bloomfield in Lawrence County’s scoring column, Logan Ratliff netted 19 points while Hayden Perry posted 15 points. Perry made three three-pointers for the Bulldogs.
Rounding out Lawrence County’s scoring, Luke Fetherolf added seven points and Blake Marcum contributed four points.
