Bulldogs defeat Rockcastle County in second round battle

LOUISA — Lawrence County defeated Rockcastle County 32-26 during the second round of the KHSAA Class 3A State Football Playoffs at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday, Nov. 14.

The Bulldogs moved to 11-1 after registering the win. Lawrence County advanced to the third round of the KHSAA Class 3A State Football Playoffs.

The Bulldogs overcame a slow start, battling back from behind to claim the win.

Rockcastle County led 10-0 at the conclusion of the opening quarter.

But Lawrence County answered and managed to enter halftime ahead 16-10.

Then, after extending its lead, Lawrence County led 24-10 at the end of the third quarter.

Quarterback Luke Fetherolf paced the Bulldogs. Through the air, Fetherolf completed 12 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Fetherolf rushed 10 times for 68 yards and two touchdowns.

Gray Derifield was Fetherolf’s top target, hauling in three receptions for 52 yards. In addition to Derifield, Carlo Chicko, Cameron Castle, Braxton Davis, Kaden Johnson, Andrew Ratcliff and Cavin Wiliams reeled in receptions for the Bulldogs.

As a team, Lawrence County rushed 26 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns.

Following Fetherolf, Williams rushed eight times for 42 yards.

Defensively for Lawrence County, Johnson recorded a game-high 21 tackles and three tackles for losses.

Providing a lift in Lawrence County’s secondary, Derifield recorded one interception.

Lawrence County moved on to meet host Bell County in the third round of the KHSAA Class 3A State Football Playoffs.
