Blevins named Area Player of the Year

LOUISA — Following his junior season, Lawrence County pitcher/first baseman Bryce Blevins was named the Ashland Daily Independent Area Baseball Player of the Year on Wednesday, July 21.
Blevins, a standout who has committed to the University of Kentucky, dominated on the mound during the 2021 high school baseball season. The Lawrence County left-hander posted a 0.30 ERA, allowing two earned runs and 20 hits in 47 innings. His strikeout-to-walk ratio was 91 to 1.
In addition to thriving on the mound for Lawrence County, Blevins delivered at the plate.
Along with Blevins being honored, Lawrence County catcher Blue Fletcher, another standout in the Class of 2022, was named to the Ashland Daily Independent All-Area Baseball Team. The 58th District Player of the Year, Fletcher batted .392, scored 48 runs and recorded 19 RBIs while batting out of the Bulldogs’ leadoff spot. Fletcher compiled a 2.19 ERA on the mound and excelled defensively, especially when he was behind the plate as Lawrence County's catcher.
Cameron Kelsey (Johnson Central) and Ryan Sartin-Slone (Johnson Central) were among the additional players named to the All-Area Baseball Team.
Gunner Collins (Paintsville), Connor Fugate (Paintsville), Conner Lemaster (Johnson Central), Ashton Miller (Paintsville), Jonah Porter (Paintsville) and Ethan Whitt (Lawrence County) were among the All-Area Honorable Mention selections.
