LOUISA — Alan Short is the all-time winningest head coach in the tradition-rich Lawrence County football program’s history.

Short became Lawrence County’s winningest head coach after the Bulldogs shut out Mason County 26-0 in Maysville on Friday, Oct. 2.

The win over Mason County allowed Short to surpass former head coach Billy Goldsmith (1986-1993) as Lawrence County’s all-time football wins leader. It was Short’s 73rd win.

“What a tremendous honor and milestone,” said Short. “Being mentioned alongside Coach Goldsmith, Coach Williams, and Coach Michael is a great honor. After 11 years, I am still humbled and grateful for the opportunity to lead this football program. This record would not be possible without so many people.  My wife, Chelsee and children, Ellie and Lucy, have supported our coaching journey from the very beginning. All of our players, coaches, and administrators over the last 11 years have contributed to this achievement. I have been blessed to work with some of the best over the last 11 years. I am thankful for the past and look forward to the future!”

Lawrence County is 5-1 through its first six games in the 2026 high school football season. The Bulldogs are perennial title contenders. Lawrence County is the reigning Class 3A, District 8 champion.
