LOUISA – Lawrence County school officials released details Monday of graduation events for Lawrence County High School.
Events will include a modified drive-in ceremony in the LCHS gymnasium May 22, a senior parade May 23 and a virtual graduation to be broadcast June 1.Superintendent Dr. Robbie Fletcher noted in an email to local media that plans may change if any restrictions in place in Kentucky are lifted prior to the scheduled events.“For example, right now we are only allowed 10 people in the gym at one time,” Fletcher said. “If that number increases, we will add more for families.”During the May 22 drive-in ceremony, each graduate will have an appointed time frame to walk across the stage and receive their diploma case. Graduates will be able to share the event with six family members and/or friends, and all participants must wear a face mask. Graduates will be allowed to remove their masks for pictures.In addition to graduates and their chosen family members, Fletcher, LCHS Principal Christy Moore and photographer Kim Cecil will be the only ones allowed in the gym at one time.Graduates and their family members must arrive at Bulldog Lane together in a maximum of two vehicles, with school and police officials to be on hand to assist with further instructions. Assigned times for graduates and their family members include:

 Group 1: Ailiff to Cavins from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Group 2: Chafin to Fitch from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Group 3: Fitzgerald to Huff from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. 

Group 4: Hughes to Maddix from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. 

Group 5: Marcum to Moore from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

Group 6: Mullins to Rowe from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 

Group 7: Sandefur to Thompson from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

Group 8: Thornsberry to Young from 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Line-up for the May 23 graduation parade, which will visit all six schools in Lawrence County will begin at 10 a.m. on Bulldog Lane, with the parade to start at 10:30 a.m. and visit Louisa West, Louisa East, Fallsburg Elementary and Blaine Elementary before returning to town. The parade will last approximately three hours.Community members are encouraged to decorate the parade route.Each graduate is invited to ride in one personal or family vehicle, and a family member is encouraged to drive their graduate from school to school. A graduate can have as many family members as he or she wants in the vehicle, but no one can get out of the vehicle while on school property.Citizens can park in different areas throughout the parade route and post signs in their yards or along the route.The parade route and approximate arrival times of the first car in the lineup include: 10 a.m.: Lineup on Bulldog Lane at LCHS and Louisa Middle School.  10:30 a.m.: The parade will leave Bulldog Lane and drive slowly to and through Louisa. 11:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: The parade will travel to Fallsburg at normal speed on Rt. 3.  11:45 a.m.: The parade will slow to “parade speed” at Cabin Rentals and drive through Fallsburg, circle Fallsburg Elementary and then drive back to U.S. 23 at normal speed and head to Blaine.  12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: The parade will travel to Blaine via Ky. 32.  1:30 p.m.: The parade will slow to parade speed at the intersection of Ky. 201 and Ky. 32 and drive through Blaine.The virtual graduation ceremony scheduled to be broadcast Monday, June 1, at 7 p.m. “After compiling pictures and videos, the Lawrence County High School production team will put together a virtual graduation ceremony that will follow the program of a traditional LCHS graduation ceremony,” the graduation plan says. “It will include introductions by Principal Moore, videos of guest speakers (including the Class President), music and more. It will be a special tribute to the Lawrence County High School Senior Class of 2020.”Area events are subject to change if COVID-19 safety requirements by the governor are modified.
