TOMAHAWK — A Martin County woman died in a four-wheeler accident on May 29 at Tomahawk.

Muriel S. “Sam” Penix, 60, was pronounced dead at ARH in Prestonsburg.

Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Billy Patrick said that several people were on four-wheelers and going into the hills at Rockhouse to ride.

Penix and her sister, Michelle Webb, were on the same four-wheeler, a 500 cc, Suzuki, and were going up the mountain.

“It was steep, and the four-wheeler flipped back and landed on top of her,” Patrick said. “Her sister had scrapes, but nothing serious. She was talking for a while. Some of the people that were with her loaded her up on a side by side and brought her off the mountain. It was then that they had to start CPR. They got a heartbeat once in the ambulance and again at the hospital, but they couldn’t keep it.”

Penix was born in Chateauroux, France. Her family came to the United States in 1964, and she grew up and lived most of her life in Ohio.

Penix is survived by her husband, Larry; two sons, Karson and Cody; four brothers, Dan, Mark, Joel and Wayne Webster; three sisters, Kim Webster, Francie Roberts and Vicky Ondraka; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held June 2 at 1 p.m. at Crum Funeral Home in Inez, with burial in Trace Fork Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
