A fire at Riverside Generating Plant shut down the northbound lane on US 23 when oil leaked into a turbine in unit 2 causing the blaze just before 6:30 a.m., Friday morning, April 11.

Several fire departments were called to the power station just north of the Kentucky Power Plant and were able to get the fire under control without any injuries according to Fallsburg Fire Chief Chris Jobe.

Fire crews were put on standby until workers at the plant were able to clear the unit of gas before they could go into the area of the fire.

As a precaution, CSX stopped trains in that area as well.
