Deputies were called from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office when it was reported Wednesday, March 25, to Jess Fletcher, of Lawrence County Animal Control, that dogs were running loose in the Webbville area of KY 201.
Fletcher said when she went to the location, she set food out for the animals but called for police to clear the home and property to make sure no one was staying in or around it so she could collect the animals when she found out the owner of the property had been sentenced to 2-6 years in prison on drug charges. During a search, deputies kept identifying themselves as they went from room to room looking for more animals and making sure no one was in the home.
The house was left with doors and windows partly opened and in complete disarray.
In the backyard was a huge trash pile and puppies were crawling on it looking for food.
Once officers cleared the house, Fletcher was able to set a live trap for a large black dog that was in the home.
She was able to retrieve all the outside animals fairly quickly.
In total, the number of animals collected from the residence was 4 adult dogs, 8 puppies, one dead puppy, 6 adult cats and 6 kittens.
Fletcher said some of the animals had been reported to be “running up and down the road ripping up everyone’s trash.”
