Septemberfest kicks off Friday in Louisa

LOUISA — The first fall festival in the Big Sandy region kicks off this weekend in Louisa.

The 32nd annual Lawrence County Septemberfest will be held Friday and Saturday with food, entertainment, arts and crafts, carnival rides and more.

Actually, the first event associated with Septemberfest was held Monday at Louisa East Elementary School, where several pageant winners were crowned.

Victoria Penix, the 16-year-old daughter of Samantha and Victor Penix of Louisa, was crowned the new Miss Septemberfest. The first runner-up was Kirsten Denet Wells, the 18-year-old daughter of Cindy and Matt Reid of Louisa, and the second runner-up was Callie Robertson, the 17-year-old daughter of Carmen and Phillip Robertson.

The new Junior Miss Septemberfest is Charly Curnutte, the 13-year-old daughter of Christi and Jeff Curnutte of Louisa. The first runner-up was 15-year-old Madison Dale, the daughter of Amanda Adkins of Louisa.

The Young Miss Septemberfest contest resulted in a tie as Briana Janka, the 10-year-old daughter of Jessica Janka of Louisa, and Laila Dolen, the 10-year-old daughter of Sheena and Derek Potter of Louisa and Lionel Dolen, were both crowned the winner.

The first runner-up was Khloe Nicole Blackburn, the 9-year-old daughter of Stephanie and Gary Sexton of Paintsville. The second runner-up was 9-year-old Madison Ash, the daughter of Brandi and Danny Ash of Louisa.

Noah Stewart, the 7-year-old son of Elizabeth and Danny Stewart of Louisa, was crowned Little Mister Septemberfest.

The new Little Miss Septemberfest is Holland Ledson, the 6-year-old daughter of Melissa and Derreck Holland of Fort Gay, W.Va. The first runner-up was Sadie Parsley, the 8-year-old daughter of Valerie and Rob Parsley of Louisa. The second runner-up was Kennedy Vaughn, the 7-year-old daughter of Heather and Kenny Vaughn of Van Lear.

Thirteen-month-old Kayson Utley, the son of Kayla Burkett and Justin Utley of Johnson County, was crowned the Cutest Toddler Boy. The first runner-up was Brantley Horn, while branton Rowe and Hunter Patrick tied as second runner-up.

Karmen Dalton was named the Cutest Toddler Girl. Addilyn Webb was first runner-up and Kaylynn Fitch was second runner-up.

Ten-month-old Raelyn Lowe, the son of Ashley and Cody Lowe of Martin County, was crowned Prettiest Baby Boy. The first runner-up was Houston Dotson and the seonc runner-up was Andrew James Kirk.

The Prettiest Baby Girl was Freya Rose Ward, the 11-month-old daughter of Monica Johnson and Tyler Ward of Louisa. The first runner-up was Taytum Maynard, the 8-month-old daughter of Natlee New and Lucas Maynard of Louisa, while the second runner-up was Evelyn Cantrell, the 3-month-old daughter of Lynsey and Bobby Cantrell of Louisa.

Full-day schedules are slated for Septemberfest on Friday and Saturday.

The Friday schedule for “The Best Little Festival in Kentucky” includes the opening of the information booth at 9 a.m., arts and crafts at 10 a.m., food vendors at 11 a.m. and carnival rides at 1 p.m.

A puppet show will be held at 11 a.m. at Main Street Park, and the festival’s opening ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. on the main stage.

Music begins at 5 p.m. with a gospel concert at Main Street Park, while shows on the main stage include Loud Diversion at 5 p.m., Eddie Jenkins at 6 p.m., and Adam Warner at 7:30 p.m. The main attraction, Priscilla Block, will perform at 9:30 p.m.

Saturday’s schedule includes a Masonic Lodge pancake breakfast at 7 a.m.; and food vendors and a car show in the parking lot of First Baptist Church at 9 a.m.

The line-up for the Septemberfest parade begins at 10 a.m. in Louisa Plaza, with the parade beginning at 11 a.m.

The car show continues at noon, while a trail ride sponsored by the Lawrence County Saddle Club begins at 1 p.m. at Lawrence County Horse Park.

Music at Main Street Park kicks off at 1 p.m. with a bluegrass concert, Timberline 1 p.m., Hammertowne at 2:30 p.m., Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out at 4 p.m. and The Cornbread Orchestra at 6 p.m.

The Masterpiece Courtyard Acoustic Series begins at 2 p.m. with Josh Slone, followed by Noah Thompson at 3 p.m., Luke Trimble at 4 p.m., Dewey Moore at 5 p.m. and Mitchell Shepherd at 5:30 p.m.

Performing on the main stage Saturday will be Turn It Up at 7:30 p.m. and headliner Trent Tomlinson at 9:30 p.m.

Fireworks will close Septemberfest at 11 p.m.
