Road Dedication Set for Aug. 8, for Lawrence County Veterans

LOUISA —Senator Phillip Wheeler, Lawrence County Judge Executive Phillip Carter, Deputy Judge Vince Doty and members of the VFW are planning a road dedication ceremony on Aug. 8, at 5 p.m. on Rt. 3398, the road going from US 23 to Fallsburg Road, honoring three Veterans (Jimmy Wayne Hardwick, Charles Spencer Jones and Ellsworth Swann) who were killed in action in Vietnam.
Army Corporal, Jimmy Wayne Hardwick, was born May 6, 1947 and died on Oct. 25, 1968, at the young age of 21. He was killed in Long An Province, South Vietnam as a ground casualty, from gun fire. Hardwick served in C Co., 2nd BN, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, USARV. Hardwick’s name can be found on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Panel W40, Line 33.
Army Warrant Officer Charles Spencer Jones, was born Dec. 11, 1938, and died on Feb. 14, 1969, on Valentine’s Day, at the age of 30. He was killed at Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam, as a ground casualty, from a heart attack. Jones served in the 329th Trans. Co., 159th Trans. Battalion, 4th Trans CMD, Army Spt. Cmd. Saigon, 1st Log. Cmd., USARV. Jones name can be found on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Panel W32, Line 32.
Army Private First Class, Ellsworth Swann, was born Aug. 26, 1945 and he died on Dec. 14, 1967, at the age of 22. He was killed at Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam as a ground casualty from an explosive device. Swann served in A Co., 3rd Battalion, 22nd infantry, 25th infantry division, USARV. Swann’s name can be found on the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Wall on Panel 31E, Line 96.
