Resurfacing Project Underway in Lawrence County on US 23

A resurfacing project is underway on U.S. 23 in Lawrence County, beginning at mile point 18.452 (north of KY 3) and extending north to mile point 21.645.

Work will take place weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with possible Saturday hours if weather causes delays. The project is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.

During construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane with a reduced speed limit of 45 mph through the work zone. Signs will be posted to alert motorists to lane closures and reduced speed.  

New “Speed Photo Enforced” signage will also be in place. This project will be the first site in Kentucky to use an automated speed enforcement device, signed into law this year. When the sign is on and flashing, the system will identify vehicles traveling above the posted 45 mph work zone speed limit and relay information to law enforcement officers, if stationed beyond the work zone. Tickets will only be issued to drivers in person, based on camera or detector data from inside the work zone. Speeding and traffic violations can carry a $500 fine when workers are present. The initiative is aimed at protecting both drivers and workers by promoting safe speeds in high-risk areas.
