WARFIELD — A Martin County woman robbed a pharmacy at knifepoint, in the Warfield community of Martin County March 9, but passed out before she could make her getaway and wound up in the hospital instead, police said.
Marlena Evans, 43, of Lovely, is charged with first-degree robbery.
According to the complaint, Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Lauren O’Bryan said that Evans committed first-degree robbery when she entered the Warfield Prescription Center with a knife and demanded the pharmacist give her a bottle of Xanax.
She threatened to “gut” the pharmacist and pointed the knife at another employee who attempted to approach her, the complaint said.
The pharmacist handed her the pills, which she poured into her mouth, and she stole a bottle of soda to swallow them with, the complaint said.
Evans became unconscious with the knife in her hand in the store, the complaint said, and deputies recovered the knife from Evans’ hand and the pill bottles at the scene beside her.
Deputies have pictures of Evans at the scene and statements from witnesses.
Evans was transported to Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, where she reportedly ended up on life support for a time and was released on Monday, March 15, at which time the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office executed the warrant for her arrest.
Johnson County officials picked Evans up on March 16, when was moved to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
