PAINTSVILLE — The Johnson County Grand Jury declined to return an indictment July 21 in a death investigation that began in 2019.

The grand jury said “insufficient evidence was presented to warrant an indictment” in the shooting death of Joseph Snipes II on Oct. 17, 2019.

Johnson County Sheriff Doug Saylor said at the time of the incident that dispatch received a call at 8:45a.m. on Oct. 17, 2019, from Misty Snipes that she had shot her estranged husband.

Upon arrival at the home at Riceville, members of the sheriff’s office, accompanied by Paintsville EMS, entered the residence and found the body of Joseph Snipes II, Saylor said in a press release.

His body was transported by Johnson County Coroner J.R. Frisby to the Medical Examiner Lab in Frankfort, the release said.

“Due to this case remaining under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, no other information can be released at this time,” Saylor said in the release.
