INEZ — Come to Movies on Main, located at the Martin County Public Library at the Collier Center in Inez, Kentucky, to enjoy a film and a fantastic community experience.

Movies on Main, the only movie theater in Martin County, shows first-run films Thursday through Saturday every week on the latest movie technology. “Our projection and sound systems were upgraded since the pandemic offering a fantastic theater experience,” Kendra Fletcher, interim director of the Martin County Public Library, said. “Don’t forget the popcorn. Ours is the best!”

With four screening rooms seating a total of 540 patrons, Movies on Main offers a variety of viewing options in a clean environment with great seats, amazing sight lines, concessions, and murals painted by the Martin County High School Arts Club.

The theater hosts many more activities than movies. In conjunction with the library, it also offers the Pages and Popcorn program, a book-to-movie club. The book-movie combination for September is William Goldman’s “The Princess Bride” with a movie screening on Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. Upcoming books include Nicholas Sparks’ “Message in a Bottle” and Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.” For children’s movies, the library and theater host a free children’s program, including arts and crafts, starting 30 minutes before the movie screening. In the winter, the theater will resume hosting videogaming competitions using the theater screens to display the video.

Several restaurants are located within an easy stroll of the theater, including The Shufflin’ Café (https://www.facebook.com/shufflincafeky), The Lavish Cow (https://www.facebook.com/thelavishcow2022), and the Inez Hibachi Grill Express (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063649972377). All of these establishments are open to enjoy lunch or dinner before or after a movie. With friendly staff and expansive menus, anyone can find a great meal to compliment the day.

The Martin County Public Library at the Collier Center also sits at the foot of two interpretive walking trails: the Kingfisher Trail and the God’s Promise Trail. At a mile long, these trails offer beautiful scenery in the Appalachian Mountains as well as glimpses of a cabin and school house from our pioneer past.

The Collier Center, a private-public partnership started in the 2000s with the work of the Booth family and former Judge-Execute Lon Lafferty, also boasts a wide variety of services managed by the library. With a full-service library, gymnasium, walking track, indoor playroom, adult education center, Big Sandy Community Action Program location, conference rooms, 3-D printing equipment, and other technologies, the Martin County Public Library is truly at the heart of the community. The facility is available for rental for school events, birthdays, conferences, or conventions.
