Man fatally shot in Lawrence County

LOUISA — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release Monday regarding a home invasion-kidnapping that occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. that morning on Tadpole Road during which the perpetrator was fatally shot.

When the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they found Billy Mitchell, 54, of Ripley, W.Va., dead from gunshot wounds, the release said.

Mitchell reportedly forced his way into the home and was attempting to remove victims and juveniles out of the home, the release said.

One of the victims was able to escape Mitchell and retrieve a firearm, shooting him, the release said.

The investigation is ongoing in conjunction with the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office.
