LOUISA —Louisa Police Sgt. Steven Wilburn received the Louisa Police Commendation Medal at Thursday’s city council meeting.

The medal was presented to Wilburn by Louisa Mayor Harold Slone and Louisa Police Chief Greg Fugitt for his heroic actions that saved two individuals in separate incidents on the same shift, according to a release.

Wilburn, while on routine patrol March 19, “took it upon himself” to respond to an EMS call of an infant born at the Best Western hotel who was not breathing, the release said.

Upon his arrival, Wilburn gave immediate care to the infant until EMS arrived, resulting in the child surviving and being transported to the hospital.

Later, during the same shift, Wilburn rapidly responded to a call of an unresponsive male by the locks, the release said. Wilburn administered Narcan to the person, assisting him to regain consciousness until EMS arrived.

“Wilburn went above and beyond his call for duty,” the release said.
